Poems My Grandmother Taught Me

Refuge

In all the turmoil, rush and mad events,
I have a quiet place
Within my heart
To give me peace. The peace and beauty of:
Fur trees standing in the snow, undaunted there,
Wind rustling through green leaves on summer days,
A baby sweetly sleeping in soft dreams,
A lazy dog contented in the sun,
White apple blossoms opening in the spring,
The music of church bells across the town,
The hearty laughter of a child at play.
I have a quiet place
Within my heart
To give me peace.

~Dana B. Nelson

In Others’ Words

“I have learned silence from the talkative, tolerance from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind. I should not be ungrateful to those teachers.” ~Kahlil Gibran
