Poems My Grandmother Taught Me

And Then The Rains Came

When I was young and immature,
The sky was blue,
The sun was bright.
And I was sure – oh, I was sure,
What I should do
To keep things right,
Was laugh the little cares away,
And I turned night time into day.
I danced, and laughed and I was gay.

Now I am older and mature,
Somber the sky
And dim the sun.
Now I am sure – oh, I am sure,
Though laugh I try,
It can’t be done.
I smile and good control I keep,
All day I hide the heartaches deep,
But in the night I weep, I weep.
