The Bride Has Gone
The ice has melted, the punch is weak,
Mother has lipstick smeared on her cheek
Where daughter kissed her a swift goodby,
While Father feels he wants to die.
The house is forlorn. Where laughter rang
And voices mingled, and the daughter’s gang
Had all the wedding fun, its walls
Echo loneliness as the silence falls.
Dear Mother, do not feel so sad,
And Father, things are not that bad,
They’ll come again in a joyous mood,
And life will then again be good.
But nothing will heal their hearts today,
Their daughter has married and gone away!
