Poems My Grandmother Taught Me

Johnny’s Gone To Bed

Little Johnny’s gone to bed.
Gone to sleep, the sleepy-head.
Played real hard the whole day through,
Now look what mother has to do!
One shoe here and one shoe there,
Two hats here, toys everywhere!
Wonder if poor Johnny knows
Who will pick up all his clothes?
Oh, I know it’s fun to play,
But Johnny should put things away.
When play is done and it’s time for bed,
It’s nice to have things in order, instead
Of things over here and things over there.
Though we’re tired and sleepy it’s only fair
To take a minute to put things away,
It makes a nice ending to a happy day.
