Poems My Grandmother Taught Me

The Birthday Party

Johnny is having a birthday party,
Planning for such fun!
Cake all baked and decorated,
Games all ready, work all done.
Johnny’s waiting at the door,
Why, oh why, don’t the children come?
Time goes by and still he waits,
Johnny’s feeling pretty glum.
Mother says, “I surely hope
The children have good explanations!”
Johnny says, “Now I remember,
I forgot to mail the invitations!”
